Soweto is the abbreviation for South Western Townships, suburbs located in the south west of Johannesburg. It is there, about twenty kilometers from the South African capital city, that white colonists had forced Blacks to exile from the end of the 19th century. The latter can no longer go back to town, except to "serve the white man".
