Denied of a fair trial following the shooting death of his teenage son (his only child) by a white police officer, American Skin, weaves a layered story in the tradition of Sidney Lumet's 12 Angry Men and Dog Day Afternoon, that follows the desperate actions of a Black Iraqi War Vet who seeks justice for his son.

A Marine veteran working as a school janitor tries to mend his relationship with his son after a divorce. When his son is killed by a police officer found innocent without standing trial, he takes matters into his own hands.

Director's Statement
Why this movie now? In response to many injustices and divisions happening in our country, I have developed a public service announcement/think piece that I hope will challenge systems of oppression by promoting a much needed dialogue between law enforcement and community members of colour. This project will create a public forum whereby individuals on both sides can speak truthfully about what they feel regarding circumstances surrounding many of the decisions that are made which affect the lives of both citizens and members of law enforcement.
This project will explore the divides often created by history, politics, and media, which prohibit healthy communication and relationships between our nation's citizens. We will accomplish this by forcing these groups of people into a controlled environment together. My hope is that this dialogue will create healing within these broken relationships and will serve as preventative maintenance, by conditioning both sides to take a necessary beat, which can in turn save a life.

Lincoln Jefferson è un veterano del corpo dei Marines e lavora come custode in un prestigioso liceo della California: un lavoro che si è trovato per garantire l'iscrizione alla scuola del figlio quattordicenne, KJ. Una notte, Lincoln e KJ vengono fermati dalla polizia e l'alterco che ne scaturisce culmina nel ferimento fatale del ragazzo disarmato. Perché questo film oggi? In risposta alle innumerevoli ingiustizie e divisioni in essere nel nostro Paese, ho messo a punto un servizio di pubblicità progresso uno spunto di riflessione che spero sfiderà il sistema di oppressione, promuovendo un dialogo profondamente necessario tra le forze dell'ordine e i membri della comunità di colore. Questo progetto darà il via a un forum pubblico in cui ogni individuo su entrambi i fronti potrà esternare liberamente i sentimenti che nutre nei confronti delle circostanze che determinano molte delle decisioni prese e che impattano sia la vita dei cittadini che dei responsabili dell'applicazione della legge.
Questo progetto esplorerà i divari spesso creati dalla storia, dalla politica e dai media che inficiano la sana comunicazione e le relazioni tra i cittadini della nostra nazione. Riusciremo in questo intento spingendo questi gruppi di persone a fare parte congiuntamente di un ambiente controllato. La mia speranza è che questo dialogo possa sanare queste relazioni interrotte e servire come misura preventiva, incoraggiando entrambe le parti a fermarsi un attimo, un attimo che può salvare una vita.
