Leila Djansi is an American/Ghanaian filmmaker who started her film career in the Ghana film industry. President of the Ghana Library Board Readers club for three years running, her sojourn in the industry began when she came second runner-up in a regional beauty pageant in 1998. She adventured with event management where she promoted and produced mainstream entertainment shows including The Playback Show and Teen Talent. A screenplay, Babina, for producer Akwetey Kanyi resulted in her first screen credit. She began her film education at the National Film and Television School and continued to Manifold College. She left Ghana for the United States to continue her Film and Television Degree at Savannah College of Art and Design. She has remained in the United States since her departure in the late 1990s.

Leila Djansi returns as director for a story she has been passionate about for years. Leila is a filmmaker who began her career with the GAMA Film Company in Ghana. She wrote and produced her first feature film Babina with Aak Films Ghana at the age of 19.

With an academic background in Film and Television and more recently Cultural Anthropology, Leila is a filmmaker who has chosen to tell stories about life, survival, and the delicate intricacies of culture.

This strong passion is what led her to the establish the Turning Point Film Fund, a Ghanaian program set up to fund productions primarily about women, children, and issues affecting African society as a whole. Her critically acclaimed screenplay for Movie Africa Subcity: A Tale of Survival (or The Prostitute, Ghana title) won the best screenplay award at FESPACO in 2002. Her credits include The Sisterhood, "Grass Between My Lips", and Twig-Carver among others.
