Marie St-Hilaire was born in Québec. She studied visual arts and followed a three-year course dedicated to ceramics. During her studies, she was lucky enough to visit her family which has been living in Vanuatu for over ten years now. Each of her trips influenced her creations. She has recently moved to Port-Vila. Her project is to create her own ceramics workshop-school offering various courses and trainings. The school will be opening soon.
« I have always admired what we call 'primitive art'. Each island in Vanuatu is full of traditions mixing creativity and know-how. Custom is still very important here and it is a invaluable treasure that must be preserved. »
Marie St Hilaire's exhibition is shared in the same space with Sophie de Garam's works on the kapkap for which another article is written. Their works dialogue well together.
