KUKU hails from a lineage of the "Balogun/Baloguns" (General of the Royal Army). The renowned KUKU family of Ijebu Ode in Ogun State, Nigeria has held this esteem royal title for centuries. KUKU himself served a number of years in United States Army; hence, the title of "Soldier" is quite fitting. The contradiction in this soldier's story is his peaceful nature, message, and the overall power of his music. The mission for peace is the bases for this latest release, Soldier of Peace, which translate in KUKU's native Yoruba tongue `to "BÁLÓGUN ÌRÒRÙN."
On "Soldier of Peace", KUKU uncompromisingly bridges the gap between his African roots and the western world with an effortless blend of Yoruba, English and Pidgin English lyricism, percussive guitar progression, infectious Udu drum rhythms, topped with the South African Township guitar inflections of co-producer Mongezi Ntaka (Lucky Dube, Vusi Mahlasela, Lorraine Klaasen). Randall Grass, author and top record label executive at Shanachie Entertainment writes about Soldier of Peace "The music embraces you, caresses you and has the sustaining quality of a good but simple meal."
